Winlink is the “thing” that allows you to talk to anyone using email when you don’t have access to the internet. EmCOMM and ARES uses Winlink as their primary form of communication for sensitive information that isn’t suited for over the air. It’s also used for large amount of information that would tie up traditional radio time, i.e. weather information, status updates, supplies needed, injury reports, etc..
Like any technology or skill, you need to practice and emailing your spouse our yourself just gets boring after about the 10th time. So, Colorado ARES started Winlink Tuesday. This is a scenario-based exercise every week to all you to practice your Winlink skills. That week’s event is due by end of day on the Tuesday, hence the name Winlink Tuesday.
EmComm-Training.org is another organization that creates winlink training for Thursdays. Of course it’s called Winlink Thursday. Same characteristics as Colorado ARES but they go into a lot more detail. Their website has the complete schedule for 2024 including the topics.
